methods of disposal of non biodegradable waste

The modes of disposal of non biodegradable wastes may be

  • Landfill – Landfills are established on abandoned or unused lands where wastes are disposed and buried into the soil.
  • Incineration – Some wastes like medical or toxic wastes that are not safe to dispose are burned in high temperature into incinerators. Incinerators transform the waste into ashes.
  • Recycling – The wastes that are safe enough are treated and some value materials are extracted for reuse are called recycling.

Five modes of waste disposal are :

  1. Incineration - it includes burning of waste
  2. Sewage Treatment- it includes treating the waste material and then discarding it in rivers or using treated water for irrigation etc. 
  3. Preparation of compost- Biodegradable waste can be converted in compost which can be then used as manure in the fields. 
  4. Landfill - The waste material is dumped under the ground.
  5. Recycling
