himalaya consists of 3 parallel ranges ,namely Himadri,Himachal and Shiwaliks.

Himadri- northernmost range of the himalayas., most continous range,its average elevation is more than 6,000 m above sea level

himachal- also called the middle himalaya,average height is from 3,700m to 4,500m above sea level,all important hill stations are in this range

shiwaliks-also known as outer himalaya,dehradun in situated here in one such valley,average attitude varies from 900 to 1,000 m.
