"Nothing beside remains‟. What does the narrator mean when he says these words?

Dear Student,

The idea conveyed here is that nothing is permanent. Everything will come to an end with the passage of time. Thank you.

nothing beside remains means that noting on this earth is permanant. For eg. people take birth and die.as ozymandias is so proud of himself and builds a memorial for becoming immortal, the poet says these line

others may hav different interpretation .this is mine

actually it means that, the statue was once a symbol of egoitism & gr8ness. but its no more than a broken stone now......he was so sinful to others that no one even bothered about his statue and left it untouched only so he says that nothing beside remains means that person and his deeds are no more now

nothing beside remains . It means within  d passage of time nothing remians .With reference 2  Ozymandias his power remained upto his living and his  power, proudyness  all after his death also died within his death

at the end there is nothing left behind, since time has destroyed everything except ozymandia's broken statue.

When the narrator says these words, he emphasises on the fact that human life is time bound. The power and popularity of the ruler descended with the descent of the ruler. Nothing is immortal and immutable in this world.
