Variations that confer advantage to an individual in a population would survive in a population as the advantageous traits would provide an edge to the individuals possessing it and the individuals possessing disadvantageous trait would be under the risk of being out competed by the individuals possessing favourable trait. Ultimately survival of the fittest would take place and the indviduals with disadvantageous trait or variation would be eliminated. With their elimination this disadvantageous trait would also disappear but it cannot be said with certainty that it would not reappear.
