please explain why the ceilings of concert halls and auditoriums covered? what will happen if they are not?
Dear Student,
The ceilings of concert halls, conference halls and cinema halls are covered with sound absorbing material so that sound, after reflection from the ceiling , reaches all the parts of the hall. If they are not covered then the sound will not just reflect once from each wall, but bounce from wall to wall, passing by the listener's ear many times in a second and creating many modes of vibration in the room. The sound loses some energy and thus the level of sound decreases each time it is reflected and crosses the room.
