In this poem the mirror is personified. The mirror is silver and exact with no preconception; an opinion or conception formed in advance of adequate knowledge or experience, especially a prejudice or bias. It swallows immediately whatever it sees. Just as everyone sees it, it is unmisted; something that does not dims, obscures, or blurs: a haze before the eyes that does not dim the vision; by love and dislike. It is never cruel but only truthful. It is like the eye of a little god which is placed in a four-cornered dimension.  Most of the time the mirror meditates on the opposite wall which is pink and filled with speckles; a small speck, spot, or mark, as on skin: speckled coloring or marking: to mark with or as with speckles. It has starred endlessly at the pink wall day in and day out that now the wall has become part of the mirror’s heart.  However the wall flickers: to burn unsteadily; shine with a wavering light: to move to and fro; vibrate; quiver: to flutter: to cause to flicker: an unsteady flame or light: a flickering movement: a brief occurrence or appearance: Often, flickers: the visual sensation of flickering that occurs when the interval between intermittent flashes of light is too long to permit fusion; and the faces of people and darkness separate them over and over again.
At present the mirror is a lake. A woman bends over it searching for the reaches of the deep waters to discover who she really is. Then she turns to those liars, the candles or the moon. The mirror sees her back and reflects her true identity very faithfully. In return the woman rewards her with tears and an agitation; the act or process of agitating; state of being agitated: persistent urging of a political or social cause or theory before the public: Also called psychomotor agitation. Psychological and physical restlessness, manifested by pacing, hand-wringing, or other activity, sometimes occurring as a symptom of severe depression, schizophrenia, or other mental disorder;  of hands. The mirror is important to her. It is the woman’s face that replaces the darkness. In the mirror, the woman has drowned her image as a young girl and in the mirror the old woman rises towards her day after day like a terrible fish.

The poem Mirror is all about the role, nature and importance of a mirror in our life. The theme of the poem comes through the voice of the mirror itself. The mirror speaks about its truthful nature in reflecting the reality. It never tampers with the reality while projecting it. It has no preconception or prejudice in showing the truth. The mirror speaks out that its motive is to portray truth rather than cruelty. The mirror compares itself to the eye of a little god which only observes truth. When nobody is in front of the mirror, it meditates on the opposite wall keeping itself always occupied. The mirror thinks that the opposite wall has become a part of it's life. Except when it is dark or somebody is in front of the mirror, it is cut off from the opposite wall.

The mirror likens itself to a lake when a woman seeks to see her true identity as reflected in the mirror. The mirror points out that it remains faithful and impartial in reflecting her true identity. It never distorts the reality. It is the very nature of human beings to welcome compliments than comments, complaints or sarcasm. The woman is searching for her true identity. However, the harsh truth revealed by the mirror agitates her. When she sees herself ageing in the mirror, she turns away to find her answers in the candles and the moon. She has tears in her eyes and her agitated hands express distress. Despite that the mirror does not flatter the woman about her beauty as is done by the candle or the moon. A woman appears different in moonlight as well as in candlelight. However, when she comes in front of a mirror, the mirror shows her true identity. The mirror regards itself to be very important to a woman as she daily appears before it to see her face. From her youthful days to old age, she cannot but appear before a mirror.

In this poem, the mirror is the speaker. It is an autobiographical poem. The mirror talks about itself, its surroundings and the woman who uses it. In this way, it gives its observations in an objective way without any personal bias. The mirror say that its appearance is silver and exact. It does not have any pre-conceptions or anything else about its existence. It is just what it is "Unmisted by love or dislike". It is neither cruel nor biased nor prejudiced, only truthful. It can be called the eye of a little god, four-cornered, that is, it is framed in a four cornered frame and it remains fixed on the wall and sees the opposite wall and only when someone comes between it and the wall or at night or in darkness, the reflection of the opposite wall goes away. The mirror is like a lake, it drowns the face of the woman, who tries to see her reflection in it. She searches for her, beauty which she had in her youth. She grows sad to see herself old now. She then turns to "candles" or the moon "which the mirror calls "liars" because these create a misted kind of surrounding around the woman's face due to which she does not seethe wrinkles or signs of old age. But the woman's real identity is revealed by the mirror. Seeing her changed face, the woman sheds some tears and moves her hands angrily. The mirror is very important to the woman. Every morning she sees herself and she is filled with her fear at her reflection of having grown old. She feels like a fish out of water, but themirror can't do anything as it reflects only the truth - that is what one really is. So, in this way, the mirror claims to be a very objective opinion giver or reflector of images
