pls explain the concept of least count of vernier calliper and screwgauge

Least count of an instrument is the minimum possible measurement which can be taken from if. Different instruments have different least counts depending on the desired measurement to be taken. Mathematically least count of every instrument is calculated as

least count = value of one smallest division on scale/total numbers of divisions

least count of vernier callipers = value of one main scale division/total no. of divisions on the main scale

= 1/100

= 0.01

least count of screw gauge = pitch/total no. of divisions on head scale

pitch = distance moved when one complete rotation is given to head scale

least count = 1/1000
