" elections in india is free & fair  "

against or for the motion .

Hello,

Elections in India is free and fair:

In Favour of the Motion:

  • India has a quasi federal government, with elected officials at the federal (national), state and local levels. On a national level, the head of the government, the Prime Minister, is elected directly by the people, through a general election.

  • Election Commission is an autonomous body set by the Constitution of India. They aren't subjective. They are responsible for conducting parliamentary, legislative and Panchayati Raj level elections.

  • In Legislative Assembly Elections, Election Commission sends observers to oversee the conduct of free and fair elections.

  • Election Commission gives directives to State Governments to not transfer officials at the time of elections. Also, it has got the right to transfer people who might be engaging into unfair practices during elections.

  • In case of complaints, the Election Commission has the authority to nullify the electoral result of any Constituency.

  • Election Commission has the right to mobilise para military forces to take care of fair and free elections.

Against the Motion:

  • Despite so many directives and set guidelines laid down by the Election Commission, elections in India are never free and fair;

  • The elections in India since independence have never been flawless and unbiased.

  • Rigging votes have always been a major issue during elections in India.

  • Para mililtary forces, even if deployed, find it a hard task in controlling the conduct of elections set by the Election Commission.

  • Literacy level in India is so low that it has led to the candidates bribing poor people who easily get carried away.
