Conjunctions are divided into two classes- subordinating conjunctions and co-ordinating conjunctions.

Co-ordinating conjunction: A conjunction that joins two sentences of equal importance is known as a co-ordinating conjunction. For example:

God proposes and man disposes.

She will attend the meeting but she will arrive late.

Subordinating conjunction: A conjunction that joins two sentences, one of which is dependent upon the another, is known as a subordinating conjunction. For example:

She has a good vocabulary because she reads a lot.

I stepped out of the house after it stopped raining.
