first by hit and trial method, we get one factor for2y³+y²-2y-1

that is  y-1

now by dividing 2y³+y²-2y-1 by y-1................ we get 2y²+3y+1

now the polynomial is 

(y-1)(2y²+y²-2y-1)

(y-1)(2y²+2y+y+1)         spilting the middle term

(y-1){2y(y+1)+1(y+1)}

(y-1)(y+1)(2y+1)

Answer=(y-1)(y+1)(2y+1)
