oh in french revolution?k the spider kills the fly and eats it so to symbolize that the nobleman takes all the food,money etc and does not leave anything for the poor peasonts.According to the taxes they have to pay in proportionate amounts.the nobleman does not care about the peasonts or any people of the third estate.

the artist has potrayed the nobleman as the spider and the peasant as the fly to depict subtly the social reality of the times. as a spiderfeeds on the fly, similarly in 18th century the nobles of france who formed the priviledged section of society lived off the labour of the peasants. the peasants not only had to pay feudal dues but render all kinds of services.
