Pam Ayers 'Oh, I Wish I'd Looked After Me Teeth' is a perfect example of her humorous quality and 'country bumpkin' accent. This poem talks about a child who ruined her teeth by eating too much sweets and candies and now regrets at having neglected them. The sense of realisation is evident in the child's tone when she admits that she should have looked after her teeth. She recollects all the time when she bought and consumed the innumerable toffees, candies and lollies which caused this disaster with her teeth.  At present, she is shown to regret and it pricks her conscience to think of the uncountable number of sherbet dabs and other harmful stuff which ruined her teeth. She considered it a waste of time, and not worthwhile brushing her teeth properly. The child says that every night she would flash the toothpaste to her parents. She did not brush her teeth by moving the brush up and down. All these caused cavities in the poet's teeth. However, present situation is such that the poetess feels regretful for her previous behaviour and understands the graveness of the situation to the utmost. She did not foresee the danger of neglecting her teeth because of which she now lay on the dentist's chair. She was the one who was responsible for paving way for the cavities to grow. If she knew she had to suffer so much she would have thrown away all the toffees and candies. She would have spent the money on something else. She hated fillings and injections and the fact that the dentist said she would need 2 fillings. Today, she has more fillings than teeth in her mouth. She is filled with despair at her present condition, laying helpless on the dentist's chair. The child's mother had false teeth which she used to put sometimes in a glass of water. The girl now recollects and realises the graveness of the situation. It is ironical that she used to make fun of her mother's teeth and now she is herself the sufferer. In other words, the child poet has realised that very soon she too will have false teeth because, the natural ones would have all decayed and gone. So, the child poet regrets that she should have looked after her teeth.
