1.  The old prophecy inscribed on the library window was 

       " When a golden girl can win

         Prayer from out the lips of sin

         When the barren almond bears , 

         And a little child gives away its tears,

         Then shall all the house be still

         And peace comes to Canterville. "

this prophecy told that if a girl with golden hair weeps for the sin committed by Sir Simon and pray for his soul, then if she always have been good and gentle, the angel of death will have mercy on soul of Sir simon.

2.     The ghost told that he has killed his wife who had been careless in repair work abd she was horrible at cooking . Nevertheless , this reason was not suffice for killing anyone. Then he was starved to death and then was mysteriously dead by his brother - in - laws.

                                                       CHAPTER  -  6

1.       When it was the time for tea, Virginia was nowhere. Otises thought that she might have gone to garden. But she didn't returned and by then, it was the time for dinner. Now the family was alarmed, as Virginia was found nowhere.  Mr. Otis went to Gypsy camp, searched entire district and rode off to Ascot road but all in vain. He was accompanied by Duke of Chesire. who was the lover of Virginia.Whole family including duke and the twins was disheartened and sudued. 

This all shows that the Otis family loves virginia very much.

2.           I agree with the statement that twins and virginia are poles apart.  Though both are the descendents of the same family they are totally different. Virginia is a girl , with sensitivity, acts as angel of mercy for ghost, portrayed as a harbinger of love and peace by the author.Unlike, rest of the family she does not ridicule, trick or trouble him.

While, the twins , also knownn as 'the stars and stripes' are tricky and troubles the ghost. they always  All these pranks foil his every attempt to frighten the Otises, leaving him feeling molested, wounded, shocked and depressed. In fact, they succeed in frightening him to such an extent that he is forced to stop all his nocturnal expeditions. 

The twins are said to be ‘very fond of their sister’ and her disappearance leaves them ‘awestruck and subdued’. However, they are back to their chirpy selves on their sister’s reappearance.
