sucrose is non reducing sugar .But maltose and lactose is not .Why explan?

Sucrose is a non-reducing sugar since both glucose (C1-alpha) & fructose (C2-beta) are connected to each other throughtheir reducing centres while in maltose & lactose this is not so.

Sucrose is non reducing sugar bcoz it cannot reduce tollen's reagent and fehling's solution.

Where as the maltose and lactose are carbohydrates which can reduce tollen's reagent and fehling .so they are reducing sugars..

i hope it's clear t o u,..

maltose n lactose is a reducing sugar C1 of one glucose is linked to C4 of other glucos. similarly the linkage of lactose is between the C1 of galactose n C4 of glucose, so they are reducing sugars. this is not the case for sucrose hence its non reducing.
