Villa for Sale, written by the famous playwright of the Boulevard theatre, is a play in which the owner, a lady named Juliette, wants to sell her villa as she is in need of money and she is fed up of that place. The entire play revolves around the characters namely Juliette, Gaston, Jeanne, Mrs Al Smith and a maid.

The play begins with a conversation between the maid and Juliette where the former tries to convince the latter to rethink on putting the villa on sale. Juliette is sure to sell the place as she is completely frustrated at the mere sight of the sign 'Villa for Sale '. Although customers come to see the villa after it has been put on sale, nobody buys it. She puts up a very restless tone when the maid suddenly asks her to permit a few days leave because she got a role to play in a film at Joinville Studio. The reason to introduce this part in the play is to represent the irony of human situation where it is difficult for Juliette to sell a villa for a meagre amount of a hundred thousand while the maid was offered a hundred francs a morning for acting as a maid. The maid exemplifies her modesty when she says that she could not turn down the offer to act especially when all she was getting paid by Juliette for an entire month was four hundred francs. There is a gentle humour in the tone when the maid proposes the idea of acting for Juliette as well, which would pay her quite a good sum.

The next scene continues with the arrival of Gaston and Jeanne to buy the villa. Their heated argument reflects their intentions on buying the villa. Gaston was completely against buying it while Jeanne was extremely willing to buy it for her as well as her parents to reside in it. She wanted to purchase it even if it meant humiliation from her husband. After a very angry argument between both they decide not to buy the villa and were about to leave when Juliette enters.

After a brief witty discussion with the couple, Juliette reveals the price at which she wants to sell the villa, i.e., two hundred thousand francs. Gaston doesn 't agree and is about to leave when Jeanne wants to have a look around the villa. Jeanne wants to see the upper floor Gaston doesn 't joins them.

Here is introduced the climax of the story which gives it an extremely interesting turn. Mrs Al Smith arrives to look at the villa. She mistakes Gaston as the owner of the villa. Here is when Gaston deceives her and sells her the villa for 3,00,000 francs. Later, when Mrs Al Smith takes a leave after presenting Gaston the cheque, Gaston is amazed and very impressed with himself on striking such a good deal.

The next part of the play shows change in the attitude of Gaston when the ladies come back after taking a tour of the entire house. This time the tables have turned when Jeanne indicates that she has lost the idea of buying the villa but Gaston desires to buy the villa for 2,00,000 francs. Juliette is still unaware that Gaston has sold the villa to Mrs Al smith. So, she is amazed at the eagerness with which Gaston offers to buy the villa the very next day. This ingenuity of Gaston is later discovered by Jeanne. This play clearly depicts how a good businessman does not ever let go of any profitable situation from his hands.
