till when does a patient need to be given glucose?

Glucose drip is given to the patients under the following conditions:

1) Dehydration and excessive loss of nutrients through body.

2) Person is unable to eat from mouth, that is oral diet is not possible.

The person is given glucose till he/she has recovered from the disease or illness and the the patient can consume food orally.

Glucose is the primary source of energy for all the body cells. So, it is necessary to maintain appropriate levels of glucose in the blood so that it reaches each and every cell of the body. Glucose drip provides necessary glucose and salts to maintain the levels in blood.
