Mrs. Fitzgerald saw that Mrs. Pearson was not treated with dignity in her own house. Seeing such maltreatment handed down to such a sweet and helpful lady, Mrs. Fitzgerald decides to help her gain her deserved status back. As Mrs. Pearson continuously refuses to take any such step fearing disharmony in her family and further, feels herself incapable of acting strongly, her neighbor decides to exchange her soul with her. Mrs. Pearson, thus gaining Mrs. Fitzgerald’s strength of mind to deal with such a situation, leaves to face up to her thankless family. She refuses to be treated like a dehumanized servant by her children as well as her husband which throws the trio in a state of shock. When the trio was jolted out of their complacency Mrs. Fitzgerald exchanges souls with Mrs. Pearson once again. Thus she helps her neighbor without changing the essential nature of Mrs. Pearson and by lending to her dear friend her mind to undertake the bold action.

There is major contrast between the two neighbours. Mrs. Pearson is meek, quiet and submissive. On the other hand, Mrs. Fitzgerald is strong-headed, bold and decisive. She knows a lot of tricks but being a good person uses them to help others.
