what is genetic equilibrium?and what is its relation with hardy-weinberg priciple?

Genetic equilibrium describes the condition of an allele or a genotype in a gene pool or a population where the frequency does not change from generation to generation. Hardy Weinberg principle is a theoretical explanation for genetic equilibrium. It states that the frequencies of an allele or genotype would remain constant in the absence of other evolutionary influences like non random mating, mutation, selection, genetic drift etc. This principle provides an ideal situation against which the influences of these circumstances can be measured.
