URGENT-what will be the bond order and magnetism it two more electron are added to N2 molecule?Out of the two,N2 or N2 2- will be more stable??Explain with suitable diagrams.

The atomic number of Nitrogen is 7 and the electronic configuration is 1s 2 2s 2 2p x 1 2p y 1 2p z 1 . N2 molecule is consists of 2 N-atoms, the total number of electrons in N2 molecule is 14. In N2 molecule's energy level diagram can be drawn as:

We have the following arrangement of electrons

 (σ1s)2 (σ*1s)(σ2s)2 (σ*2s)2 (Π2px 2 = Π2py 2)(σ2p z )2

here bond order is  = (Nb-Na) / 2 = (10-4) / 2 = 3
Now because in N2 2-, there are two electrons more. The configuration will be (σ1s)2 (σ*1s)(σ2s)2 (σ*2s)2 (Π2px 2 = Π2py 2)(σ2p z )2(Π*2px 1 = Π*2py 1).
Bond order = (10 - 6) / 2
= 2

Higher the bond order higher will be the stability. Bond order of N2 is more than N22-, so N2 will be more stable than N22-.
