and got a total of rupees 400 if he had sold first lot for rupees 1
per banana and second lotat the rate of rupees 4 for 5 banana his
total collection would have been

Let the number of bananas in lot A = xLet the number of bananas in lot B= yCASE 1 :SP of 3 bananas of lot A = Rs 2SP of x bananas of lot A = Rs2x3SP of 1 banana of lot B = Re 1SP of y bananas of lot B = Rs yso, 2x3 + y = 400⇒2x + 3y = 1200   
1CASE 2 :SP of 1 banana of lot A = Re 1SP of x bananas of lot A = Rs xSP of 5 bananas of lot B = Rs 4SP of y bananas of lot B = Rs 4y5so, x + 4y5 = 460⇒5x + 4y = 2300   
2Multiply 1 by 5, we get10x + 15y = 6000    
3Multiply 2 by 2, we get10x + 8y = 4600   
4Subtracting 4 from 3, we get7y = 1400⇒y = 200Now, from 1, we get x = 300So, number of bananas in lot A = 300number of bananas in lot B = 200Total number of bananas = 300 + 200 = 500
