Agricultural (rural ) hinterland means the land behind a city or a port, or in this case, a well developed urban city, which is prosperous due to the proximity of the port or the industrially developed urban centres. These hinterlands are usually tied with agglomerations, or urban facilities, from where products are exported to a port, or a market is also found there. Ans, just like a sea port, a riverine port is the port bases on the shores or bank of a river. The Kolkata Riverine Port is one of the oldest in India built by The Britishers. This port's hinterland included the vast area of West Bengal and (before partition ) Bangladesh, along with Eastern parts.
