The special demeanour of Nicola and Jacopo was that they were shabbily dressed but were very nice. They were totally dedicated to their work. They did all the odd jobs. Whenever the narrator wanted tickets for opera or a good restaurant name, the two boys could be relied upon. They cannot be explained just by looking at their dresses.
