what are structural isomers?  Draw the 2 isomers of butane

Molecules having same molecular formula but different structure are said to be structural isomers.

They are of 4 types

1. chain isomerism :- In this there is difference in arrangement of carbon atoms

2. position isomerism :- In this , there is difference in position of same functional groups

3. functional isomerism :- In this , the compounds have same molecular formula but have different functional groups

4. metamerism :- this arises due to unequal distribution of alkyl gropus on either side of functional group in the molecules ...

For example Butane has 2 isomers

1. n-butane

2.  iso-butane (2 methyl propane)

Hope this helps !!

Compounds having the same molecular formula but different physical and chemical properties are called structural isomers.

It is because the arrangement of their component atoms is different.

Example:  There are two isomers of butane, C4H10. In one of them, the carbon atoms lie in a "straight chain" whereas in the other the chain is branched.

Hope it helps....... Thumbs up plz.......

structural Isomers is a form of isomerism in which molecules with the same molecular formula have atoms bonded together in different orders.there are four types of structural isomers

  1. skeletal isomerism
  2.  Position Isomerism
  3. Functional isomerism
  4. Metamerism

utane has two structural isomers. These are n-butane and iso-butane. Their structures are as follows:

I think this answer is right so please give thumbs up..
