Depends on if you are the one writing them or recieving them.Writing:~Advantages:-Money is not automatically deducted, so you can write at check at the store, and then go to the bank and put your money in later.-No reciept required, you have a record right there in your carbon copy of how much you spent and where you spent it.-If you still pay bills in the mail rather than online, it's much safer to send a check than a credit card number.-Can't send cash in the mail.-Don't know about you, but I don't carry much cash, so when I owe friends money, they don't accept credit cards.~Disadvantages:-Checks cost money.-Some places don't accept checks.-Too much writing!Store/Vendor/Reciever of Checks:~Advantages:-More customers, because they have more choices in how they can pay (the same with deciding to acceptAmerican Expressor Discover or whatever else)-No specialized machines required (although many stores have check readers or MICRs anyway).~Disadvantages:-Bounced checks! (In many cases, the one who the check was written to is who the bank holds responsible for bounced check fees. It is then your responsibility to get the money from whoever wrote the bad check!)-Can't always verify that they actually have the money. And if you're the bank, that gives you another way to get money out of people!I hope that helps!
