What are the effects of ozone depletion???
Ozone depletion refers to thinning of the ozone layer over the earth's atmosphere.
Chorofluro carbon of general formula CXFyHz is responsible for ozone depletion. In the presence of high energetic rays, fluorine free radical is generated, which break ozone molecule to oxygen causing depletion of ozone layer
Ozone filters out most of the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation. If this ozone becomes depleted, then more UV rays will reach the earth. This could cause following serious problems;
- Skin cancer
- Eye damage such as cataracts
- Damage to the immune system of humans
- Damage to the DNA that may result in mutation.
- Damage to the plants.
- Damage to the marine life
- Damage to the buildings as UV radiations corrode plastic, marbles etc.
