1.FORESTS PROVIDE US WOOD, BARKS, LEAVES, RUBBER, MEDICINES, DYES, WOOD FUEL, FOOD MANURE, ETC. SO WE OURSELVES HAVE DEPLETED OUR FORESTS AND WILDLIFE.

2.THE GREATEST DAMAGE INFLICTED ON INDIANFORESTS WAS DURING THE COLONIAL PERIOD DUE TO THE EXPANSION OF RAILWAYS, AGRICULTURE, COMMERCIAL, AND SCIENTIFIC FORESRY AND MINING ACTIVITES.

3.EVEN AFTER INDEPENDENCE, AGRICULTURAL EXPANSION CONTINUESTO BE ONE OF THE MAJOE CAUSES OF DEPLETION OF FOREST RESOURCES.

4.MAJOR PARTS OF THE TRIBAL BELTS, ESPECIALLY IN NORTH EASTRN AND CENTRAL INDIA HAVE BEEN DEFORESTED OR DEGRADED BY SHIFTING CULTIVATION, A TYPE OF SLASH AND BURN AGRICULTURE.

5.SINCE 1951, LOTS OF FORESTS WERE CLEARED FOR RIVER VALLEY PROJECT LIKE 'NARMADA VALLEY PROJECT' IN MADHYA PRADESH IN MADHYA PRADESH HAS CLEARED 40,000 HECTARES OF FORESTS.

6.MINING, GRAZING, DEVELOPMENTAL PORJECTS HAVE CONTIBUTED TO THE LOSS O FORESTS.

(1) due to colonial rule the British order trees to be cut down at massive scale for its industrial needs
(2) during wars the British cut trees to make ships , used as fuels
(3) they plant only some type of trees which should not be called forests bcoz they are not biodiverse
