Iltumish:
a. Iltumish was a prominent ruler of the Delhi sultanate.
b. On acceding to the throne he had to face number of challenges, like of establishing control over Lahore, Iltumish defeated Yildoz, at Tarain and captured Lahore.
c. He also had to send military campaigns to establish control over Awadh, Badaun, and to regulate Hindu chieftains.
d. Iltumish also faced the threat from the Mongols led by Chingiz Khan and therefore in order to prevent the sultanate from the Mongols attacks.he did not grant shelter to the crown prince Khwarazm,.
e. In order to consolidate his power he had to deal with Ghiyasuddin in the east and with Qabacha in the west.
Raziya Sultan:
a. Raziya Sultan , the first women Muslim ruler and perhaps the only women ruler of the Sultanate period was an able and efficient administrator who ruled from 1236 to 1240.
b. Her period of reign could certainly be regarded as a unique period as she established complete law and order,who preferred to dress like a man and being acknowledged as the Sultan. Her ascendence to the throne was certainly not acceptable to the nobility who could not see a women occupying the throne of the Sultanate and and was apparently removed in 1240.
c. She became a prominent ruler , to be remembered in history.
Balban:
a. Balban in realising the weaknesses of the Empire brought about restructuring of the army and the administration.
b. He established an efficient espionage system and restructured the army.
c. Balban established a well equipped army to counter external and internal rebellion.
d. He brought about massive fortifications of the sultanate .
e. He kept a strict check on the nobility , and refrained them from engaging in luxury.
f. Balban started the ritual and custom of kissing the Sultan's feet to glorify Sultan's position and status.
g. He patronised many Muslim scholars.
h. All this helped him in consolidating his position.
Alauddin Khalji:
a. Alauddin Khalji introduced a series of market reforms to ensure that goods were avail;able to his subjects and they lived comfortably.
b. Also to ensure that that they was no shortage of commodities at the time of fa
mine.
c. To maintain balance between demand and supply.
d. To ensure proper and regular supply of revenue for maintenance of empire and army.
e.Alauddin Khalji raised a strong army and paid them in cash
