what are unclassed forest ? what factors are responible for decline of biodiversity in india? describe the role of communities in forest convresation? suggest some measure for the conversation of forest and wildlife?
- Reserved, protected and unclassed are the three major legal classes of forest in India. The first two are the forests which are owned by government at large. The rest of forests areas recorded in government land records as forests are called un-classed forests.
- The factors responsible for the decline in the biodiversity in India especially in case of terrestrial species are:
- Conversion of forests and grasslands to agriculture,
- Natural forests to monoculture plantations
- grazing and wood cutting
3. Role of communities in forest conservation: Local communities exercise claim over the usage and exploitation of the resources in question. They can degrade them or prevent them from being degraded. They can be entrusted with the onus of resolving internal common pool problems.
4.Measures for conservation of resources: Policies like Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, the Forest Conservation Act of 1980 have declared large areas of forest as "Reserved", "Protected", and " Wildlife Sanctuaries" or " National Parks" are efforts to conserve forest resources.
