What decides a man's future: his fortune or his efforts?

His fortune:

-merit is not enough, one requires means to accomplish things

-in the times of economic problems, it helps to have monetary support

-with a fortune, one can start out on their own

-it is not a determiner of character but of success because having a fortune can actually be a test of the person's ability to make the most of it

-resources and avenues open up better

His efforts:

-very few people are born with a silver spoon in their mouth, success depends on dedication and diligence

-there is no substitute for hard work

-its not about the resources one has, its about what they make of it and how they extract the most value

-it gives them the rigour and thirst for success

-fortune does not mean one has the aim to do better, often it is the lack of fortune that gives one the ambition to get ahead in life
