What does a doctor advise if the platelet count is very low?

The normal range of platelet counts in the body is from 150,000 to 350,000. When a person suffers from Dengue the platelet count decreases down alarmingly. But low platelet count does not always mean Dengue. If the count of platelets is too low excessive bleeding can occur. In medical term it is known as Thrombocytopenia. This situation is normally treated in the hospital and doctor advice to stay in bed to avoid injuries.
