1. Pam Ayres, the poet, regrets that she didn't take care of her teeth. She spent all her money buying sweets, sherbet dabs and candies which harm the teeth and decay them. Also, after eating them, she never used to brush her teeth properly. This has resulted in her tooth decay. Once, she used to laugh at her mother's false teeth. But now, when she has to fill her teeth with amalgum, she thinks that if she had known this would be the result, then she'd never bought the candies.
2. The poem conveys this message that we should take a proper care of our teeth. Teeth help us in chewing our food and are very essential for our survival. We should avoid eating too many sweets and brush twice a day regularly and properly so that we don't end up with decayed teeth.
