what happens to the gravitational force between two objects if

i) the mass of one object is doubled

ii) distance between two objects is doubled

iii) masses of both the objects are doubled

We know,

F = Gm1m2/r2

i)

Suppose m1 becomes 2m1:

F/ = G(2m1)m2/r2

=> F/ = 2F

Thus, force is also doubled.

ii)

Suppose r becomes 2r.

F// = Gm1m2/(2r)2

=> F// = F/4

Thus, force becomes one-fourth of original value.

iii)

Suppose both m1 and m2 are doubled:

F/// = G(2m1)(2m2)/r2

=> F/// = 4F

Thus, force becomes four times the original value.

(i)

Doubled

(ii)

One-fourth and one-ninth

(iii)

four times

According to the universal law of gravitation, the force of gravitationbetween two objects is given by:

F=M*m/r square

(i)Fis directly proportional to the masses of the objects. If the mass of one object is doubled, then the gravitational force will also get doubled.

(ii)Fis inversely proportional to the square of the distances between the objects. If the distance is doubled, then the gravitational force becomes one-fourth of its original value.

Similarly, if the distance is tripled, then the gravitational force becomes one-ninth of its original value.

(iii)Fis directly proportional to the product of masses of the objects. If the masses of both the objects are doubled, then the gravitational force becomes four times the original value.

Thumbs up plz!!

F = GMm/r2

i) When the mass of 1 object is doubled

F' = G2Mm/r2

F' = 2GMm/r2

F' = 2F, the force will become 2 times.

ii) Distance between two objects is doubled

F' = GMm/(2r)2

F' = GMm/4r2

F' = 1/4 F, the force will become 1/4 times.

iii) When masses of both objects id doubled

F' = G2M2m/r2

F' = 4GMm/r2

F' = 4F, the force will become 4 times.
