what happens when an atom looses or gains an electron

how can it happen so?

i am not getting the concept

please help me : (

Hi,

Some atoms are electron deficient or some have them extra. So an electron deficient atom will tend to acquire electro n and become stable, as it has taken electron, it will have negative charge upon it. Similarly an atom which has extra electron tends to give it away to other atom and become positively charged.

electrons are negatively charged. protons are positively charged. an atom is said to be neutral when it has no charge that is have equal number of protons and electrons. when an atom looses an electron, it will have more protons and thus have a positive charge.

every atom gains electrons and loses electrons in order to ge the stability of nearest noble gas.in our nature only noble gases are stable no other element is stable.

every atom loses electrons and gains+ve charge and gains electrons to get -ve charge
