WHAT is an earthquake??DEFINE FOCUS and EPICENTRE...

Earthquake is the sudden and violent shaking of the ground caused by the release of energy in earth's crust that generates seismic waves. Plate movement and volcanic activities are the major causes for release of energy. Collision between plates or subsidence caused by their movement away from each other generate waves of energy.

Focus- It is the point of origin of earthquake where the energy is released.

Epicentre- The point on the earth's surface directly above the focus is known as the epicentre of the earthquake.

A sudden and violent shaking of the ground, sometimes causing great destruction, as a result of movements within the earth's crust or volcanic action

epicntr-The point on the Earth's surface located directly above the focus of an earthquake.

Focus-The location where the earthquake begins. The ground ruptures at this spot, then seismic waves radiate outward in all directions.

An earthquake (also known as a quaketremor or temblor) is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves.

The epicenter or epicentre is the point on the Earth's surface that is directly above the hypocenter or focus, the point where an earthquake or underground explosion originates.

In geological terms, focus is the point below the Earth's surface where seismic waves originate during an earthquake.

An earthquake also known as a quake, tremor or temblor is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. (The seismicity or seismic activity of an area refers to the frequency, type and size of earthquakes experienced over a period of time).

The epicentre is the point on the Earth's surface that is directly above the focus/hypocenter , the point where an earthquake or underground explosion originates

i.e..epicentre is the origin of the the earthquake on the surface and the focus is the location of where the earthquake occurred.
