 balanced equations are those in which the total mass of the reactants is equal to the total  mass of products and unbalanced equations are those in which the total mass of the reactant is not equal to the total mass of the product.

Balanced equation means that the equation should be balanced on both the sides, that is the left hand side should be equal to the right hand side. On the other hand unbalanced equation means when the equqtion is not balanced on both the sides ,that is ,when the left hand side is not equal to the right hand side.

An equation having an equal number of atoms of each element on both the sides is called a balanced chemical equation.

 

An equation having an unequal no. of atoms of each element on both sides is called an unbalanced equation.

when the equal no. of atom in RHS and LHS in an equation then it is to be called balanced equation while if the no. of atom on both side is unequal then it is called unbalanced equation.

In balanced equation, the total mass in the reactantside will be equal to the total mass in the product side or total mass in LHS will be equal to that in RHS.In unbalanced chemical equation, the total mass of reactants will not be equal to the total mass in productside or total mass in LHS will not be equal to that in RHS.
