what  is bodmas rule?

The meaning of each alphabet in BODMAS is explained as:

B = Brackets

O = Of

D = Division

M = Multiplication

A = Addition

S = Subtraction

This rule is used for simplifying the various expressions.

When an expression is to be simplified, firstly we remove the Brackets by simplifying the expression within it.

Secondly we replace the Of with multiplication operator. After that we proceed to division operator then to multiplication operator and finally to additions and subtractions  operator to arrive at the correct answer.

So to remember which to do first and which is later, we have to remember the rule BODMAS.

For example, we have to simplify the expression 36 ÷ 12 + 7×2 – 7 by BODMAS rule. It is simplified as:

36 ÷ 12 + 7×2 – 7

= 3 + 7×2 – 7 (On division)

= 3 + 14 – 7 (On multiplication)

= 17 – 7 (On addition)

= 10 (On subtraction)

Hope you get it!!

Hi!

Here is the answer to your question.

For simplifying an expression, there are some rules about the order in which the calculations should be performed. The order of rules is called BODMAS. Each letter in this word stands for an operation.

For example: Consider the expression 12 + 7  2
In order to simplify this expression 7 is multiplied with 2 and the result is added to 12.
12 + 7  2 = 12 + 14 = 26

Cheers!
