what is centriole

Centriole is a cylindrical cell structure found in a pair near the nucleus of animal cell. It is composed mainly of tubulin. It takes part in organization of the microtubules making the spindle during cell division.

Acentrioleis a cylindricalcell structure[composed mainly oftubulinthat is found in mosteukaryoticcells. Centrioles are absent fromPinophyta, flowering plantsand mostfungiand are only present in the male gametes ofcharophytes, bryophytes, seedlessvascular plants,Cycads, andGingko.

An associated pair of centrioles, surrounded by an amorphous mass of dense material, called thepericentriolar material, or PCM, makes up a compound structure called acentrosome.

Most centrioles are made up of nine sets ofmicrotubuletriplets, arranged in a cylinder. Deviations from this structure includecrabsandDrosophila melanogasterembryos, with nine doublets, andCaenorhabditis eleganssperm cellsand early embryos, with nine singlets.
