 For eg the cylinder.....

the curved portion is the lateral surface area and the lateral+the top+the base=Total surface area....

similarly....in a cube area of any four adjoining sides is the lateral surface area  and the area of all faces is the total surface area...

THE AREA OF ANY OBJECT EXCLUDING THE AREA OF TOP AND BOTTOM.

SURFACE AREA

THE AREA OF ALL THE FACES.
