What is Direct Democracy and Indirect Democracy?

In direct democracy, people directly decide on matters of policy and legislation. It is also known as participatory democracy. This form of democracy is usually workable only in small countries or communities. Switzerland is an example of direct democracy.

Indirect democracy is also known as representative democracy. In this type of system, people vote to elect their representatives who take decisions on their behalf. India is an example of representative democracy.
