 what is discharge potential ?

EXPERT ANSWER

Kanika , Meritnation Expert added an answer, on 25/7/12

When a metal rod is placed in contact with solution of its ions, then metal ion tends to collide with the metal rod and after collision may gain the electrons and change in to the metal atoms i.e. they gets discharged. Ability of an ion to get discharge at electrode is known as discharge potential. Ion possessing less discharge potential will be discharged first i.e. requires less electrical energy to get discharged at the electrode.
