what is hybridisation

Hybridization is the crossing of genetically dissimilar individuals to produce best of both organisms (in both plants and animals). It is practiced so that the desired useful characters of both the individuals are found in one (the offspring). For example one plant shows good disease resistance and the other plant produces good yield. Hence by interbreeding we can get a plant which is both resistance to diseases and produces good yield. It therefore helps in crop improvement.
