What is meant by free fall ? explain why will a sheet of paper fall slower than one that is crumpled into a ball

when the acceleration of the freely falling objectis equal to the acceleration due to gravity then there occurs free fall. The paper fall slower because the surface of paper is large so therate of falling is influenced by air resistance and the crumpled paper has less surface area. So the paper falls slower then crumpled paper into ball.
