what is natural selection and artificial selection?give with examples.

  • Natural selection:
  • Natural selection is the gradual process by which heritable biological traits become either more or less common in a population as a function of the effect of inherited traits on the differential reproductive success of organisms interacting with their environment. It is a key mechanism of evolution.
  • Ex:-  In a habitat there are red bugs and green bugs. The birds prefer the taste of the red bugs, so soon there are many green bugs and few red bugs. The green bugs reproduce and make more green bugs and eventually there are no more red bugs.
Artificial Selection:

  1. Artificial selection is the intentional breeding of plants or animals. It means the same thing as selective breeding. Selective breeding is a technique used when breeding domesticated animals, such as dogs, pigeons or cattle. Some of these animals will have traits that a breeder will want to preserve.

    Ex: Cabbage, Kohl rabi, Cauliflower
