What is significance of charter act of 1813?



1)  The East India Company Act of 1813 was known as Charter Act of 1813. It was the Act of the Parliament of United Kingdom
2)  It renewed the Charter issued to British East India Company and continued British rule in India
3)  To ensure the growth of British Power in India, the Act asserted the Crown’s Sovereignty over British India, allotted funds to promote education and Christian missionaries were allowed to preach their religion in India
4)  By this Act, power of Provincial governments and courts in India over European British subjects was also strengthened by the Act
5)  Financial provision was made to encourage a revival in Indian literature and for the promotion of science
