what is soda -acid fire extinguisher

 sodium hydrogencarbonate-NaHCO3 is an metal carbonate. in case of a fire extinguisher ,it contains NaHCO3 insde it nd in d top a bottle containing acid is hanged. When d knob opened,d acid falls on sodium bicarbonate-NaHCO3. A s it is known that metal carbonates on reacting wid acid release CO2 gas , so in case of fire extinguisher, NaHCO3 react wid acid to give out CO2 gas which is used to extinguish fire

Soda acid fire extinguisher consists of sodium hydrogen carbonate (sodium bicarbonate) and an acid. Initially tartaric acid was used. Later on sulfuric acid was used. The reaction of sodium bicarbonate and acid produces a fountain of carbon dioxide with great pressure which extinguishes the fire.

Hope this helps!!

Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) (baking soda) is a substance found in all living things, regulating pH balance. Made from sodium carbonate (soda ash), soda ash is mined from trona ore. The soda ash is dissolved in a solution containing carbon dioxide. Sodium bicarbonate precipitates out naturally. Sodium bicarbonate is utilized in a multitude of applications, not the least of which is the soda-acid fire extinguisher.

This type of fire extinguisher contains a bottle of sulphuric acid supported by a metallic container
filled with a baking soda solution.When the cylinder is inverted and knob struck, against the
ground, the acid bottle breaks and the acid comes in the contact with the backing soda.

2NaHCO3 + H2SO4--------> Na2SO4 + 2H2O + 2CO2
baking sulphuric sodium water carbon
soda acid sulphate dioxide

As a result carbon dioxide is liberated. This increases the percentage of carbon dioxide in air. Due to this the supply of air is cut off and there, fire is extinguished. These types of extinguishers are used in cinema halls, multistorey buildings, etc.

Fire requires oxygen and fuel in order to burn. Fire extinguishers remove or displace the surrounding oxygen, smothering the flames. A soda acid fire extinguisher is an emergency fire protection device that can extinguish or control small fires. Often crafted from highly polished brass or copper, the soda acid fire extinguisher is activated by turning the unit upside down, thereby dumping the baking soda into acid water (similar to the effect achieved by placing baking soda in vinegar). The combined baking soda and acid produce carbon dioxide gas to project the enclosed liquid toward the flames.
