WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE  BETWEEN  ALKALIS  AND  BASES  ?

Alkalis are actually bases that dissolve in water. Examples are Sodium hydroxide, Potassium hydroxide etc.

Example of a base which is not an alkali is Copper hydroxide.

Hi,
A base is a substance that neutralizes an acid and can accept H+ ion. An alkali on the other hand is a soluble base where OH- is involved.e.g. NaOH is an alkali and NH3 is a base.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
