What is the difference between Diffusion and Osmosis?

OsmosisDiffusion
It is the movement of water particles. It is the movement of solute particle.
Occurs through a semi permeable membrane.Membrane is not required.
Movement from low concentration to high concentration of solute.Movement from high concentration to low concentration of solute..
It is associated with liquids. It is associated with solids, liquid and gases.
It occurs to short distances. It can occur to long distances.

Diffusion is the movement of particles from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration whereas osmosis is the movement of particles from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration through a selectively permeable membrane.

the main difference is osmosis includes a selectively- permeable membrane but diffusion doesn't includes a selectively permeable membrane.

1. Diffusion refers to the movement of gas particles from their region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration, whereas osmosis refers to the movement of water particles in the same manner.

2. Diffusion can occur under any circumstances whereas osmosis requires a selectively permeable membrane.

both are related to the movement of substances from high concentration towards low concentration but, OSMOSIS IS RELATED TO THE MOVEMENT OF WATER WHEARES DIFFUSION TO GASES.
