A nomad, commonly known as an itinerant in modern-day contexts, is a member of a community of people who move from one place to another, rather than settling permanently in one location. There are an estimated 30-40 million nomads in the world.

Many cultures have traditionally been nomadic, but traditional nomadic behavior is increasingly rare in industrialized countries. Nomadic cultures are discussed in three categories according to economic specialization: hunter-gatherers, pastoral nomads, and "peripatetic nomads".

PASTORALISTS :

Pastoralists are people who depend for their living primarily on livestock. They inhabit those parts of the world where the potential for crop cultivation is limited due to lack of rainfall, steep terrain or extreme temperatures. In order to optimally exploit the meager and seasonally variable resources of their environment and to provide food and water for their animals, many pastoralists are nomadic or semi-nomadic.

Nomads are the tribal people who migrate from one place to another in search of livelihood. Nomads who possess large herds of goats and sheep, on whose products they survive, are called nomadic pastoralists. They wander from place to place in search of suitable grazing grounds for their animals. Some of the nomadic tribes of India include Gujjar Bakarwals of Jammu and Kashmir, Bhotiyas of Uttarakhand, Gaddis of Himachal Pradesh and Banjaras of Rajasthan.
