what is the difference between Phenol and alcohol.

Hi Birendra,

Ashutosh has provided correct answer.
An alcohol is any organic compound in which a hydroxyl functional group (–OH) is bound to a carbon atom. The general formula of alcohol is CnH2n+1OH.
While phenols consists of a hydroxyl group (–OH) bonded directly to an aromatic hydrocarbon group. The molecular formula of phenols is C6H5OH.

Hope this answers your question.

well you see there is no characteristic difference bw the two as phenol is an alcohol containing a benzene ring. both of them have a -oh group.phenol is aromaticas well. all phenols are alcohols but all alcohols are not phenols.
