what is the difference between the state and union territory

The main difference between states and Union Terrtories is that Union Territories are administered by the President through an Administrator appointed by him/her. From the largest to the smallest, each State/UT of India has a unique demography, history and culture, dress, festivals, language etc. Whereas the states are administered by the governments headed by chief ministers of the states who are elected by the people of the state.
